Driekynská Dolina

Celá Driekynská dolina je okrem svojej malebnej krásy, plná nevšedných prírodných výtvorov a turista, či cyklista sa ňou dostane do dedín v horách Slovenského Rudohoria. Hneď v ústí doliny nás zaujme osamotená Driekynská skala, nazývaná aj Vysoká skala, ktorá má vyznačené skalolezecké cesty. Viažu sa k nej povesti o poklade a skamenenom pastierovi s ovcami. Keď sa lepšie zadívate, zaseknutý kameň vo veľkej pukline vám pri troche fantázie môže pripomínať ovčiu hlavu. Pod skalou  je ohnisko a popri nej vedú značené turistické trasy. Trochu vyššie v doline po ceste nájdete altánok s ohniskom. Prístup je možný autom, pešo alebo na bicykli zo Slovenskej Ľupče. Z ústia doliny je možné pokračovať troma cestami. Prvou cyklotrasou sa popod svahy Šupína popri Hrone dostanete cez Šalkovú až do Banskej Bystrice. Zaujímavá je, samozrejme, aj druhá trasa Suchou Driekyňou alebo tretia Mokrou Driekyňou, ktorá vedie naprieč celou dolinou. Prídete až na Ponickú Lehôtku. Očarí vás rozsiahle krasové územie Pôlč. Patrí k Ponickému krasu. Charakterizuje ho hojný výskyt povrchových krasových foriem ako sú: škrapy a závrty, ponory, krasové pramene a vyvieračky, vytvorené na plochom starom vápencovom reliéfe. V doline Driekyňa, konkrétne vo Fábryho lome sa nachádza zaujímavý ružový vápenec, ktorý je typickou morskou usadeninou z obdobia jury s nálezmi skamenelín morských amonitov. Pozdĺž Driekynského potoka môžete vidieť množstvo vzácnych druhov rastlín, napr. orchideí, ale aj živočíchov. Na potoku často loví bocian čierny alebo rybárik riečny. Pre tých náročnejších je tu výstup Strmím chodníkom zvaným aj Zbojnícky. Dovedie vás najrýchlejšie na lúky Pôlča alebo na vrchol Šupína. Viaže sa k nemu jedna z povestí – hneď vedľa cesty, sú dva balvany v podobe koliby. Presne o polnoci na Jána sa vraj kamene rozostúpia a spomedzi nich začne šľahať modrý plameň. Nad plameňom sa objaví veľký kotol naplnený Jánošíkovskými dukátmi. Stráži ho valaškou ozbrojený bača, ktorý má okolo nôh obtočeného hada s diamantovou korunou. Kto v pravú chvíľu vytrhne kotol z plameňa, stane sa neslýchaným boháčom. Ak sa prenáhli alebo oneskorí, zahynie. Taká je Jánošíkova skrýša pod Zbojníckym chodníkom.

Driekyna Valley

Although Driekynska valley is magnificent, the valley is also full of unusual natural formations. A hiker or cyclist can get through the valley to the villages that are located in the mountains of Slovak Rudohorie. Driekynská skala, also known as High Rock in the middle of the valley attracts many people. Driekynska skala (rock) has many rock climbing trails. The rock is linked to many legends, which mention a treasure and a petrified shepherd with a sheep. If you look closer and with a little help of imagination, a stone stuck in a large crack could remind you of a sheep’s head. In addition, there is a firepit under the rock and numerous hiking trails. A little bit higher in the valley, you will find a small shelter with another firepit. Access is possible by car, on foot or by bike from the village Slovak Ľupča. You can use one of the three ways when you are leaving the mouth of the valley. The first is a cycle trail that runs beneath the slopes of Supin along the Hron River. This brings you to Banska Bystrica. Just as interesting is the second trail through Sucha Driekyna (Dry Driekyna) and the third trial through Mokra Driekyna (Wet Driekyna) which runs across the whole valley and brings you to Ponicka Lehotka. You will be amazed by the breathtakingly beautiful karst area of Polc, which belongs to Ponicky Karst. It is characterized by the abundance of the surface karst forms such as: karst pits, karst springs and fountains created on an old flat limestone ground. In Driekyňa valley, specifically in Fábry lom (Fabry quarry) there occurs an interesting pink limestone, which is a typical marine sediment from the Jurassic period. Some of these sediments contain marine fossils.  Along Driekynsky creek, you see a number of rare plant and animal species, for example orchids, black storks or the common kingfisher. For those already more experienced, there is a steep climb, also called the Brigand climb. It is the fastest way to the Polca meadows or to the top of the hill Supin. The Steep climb is linked to one of the legends – there are two big rocks right next to the road. These huge rocks are located next to each other and they look like a shed. Exactly at midnight they move away from each other and they spout a blue fire.  Above the flames appears a big pot with Janosik’s ducats. The pot is guarded by a shepherd whose legs are wrapped by a snake and this snake wears a diamond crown. The legend says that if you catch the pot in the right moment you will become unbelievably rich. If you miss it or you are too fast you will die. This is Janosik‘s hiding spot under the Steep Climb.
